The department's objective is research in information and communication technology (ICT).

To meet these objectives requires a well-functioning, professional and social environment. In addition, external research funding must be secured on an ongoing basis. The department must also have a technological infrastructure that constantly is at the cutting-edge of development within ICT.
The department aims to strengthen its position as the leading Nordic research department within the field of ICT and business economics and become established as a leading research department within the field of ICT and business economics in Europe. It is the ambition to cover the IT management area as a whole, but the size of the department puts a limit to the coverage of the many different applications of ICT and ICT development areas.

Microsoft har indgået forlig med EU om at Windows-brugerne nu selv skal tage stilling til, hvilken browser de vil benytte. Tidligere har det været sådan, at som Windows-bruger har man automatisk fået leveret Microsofts egen Internet Explorer med som browser, og det har været vanskeligt at komme til at bruge andre browsere som f.eks. Firefox eller Chrome.
