Center for Law, Economics & Financial Institutions

The Center for Law, Economics and Financial Institutions at CBS

Law and Economics is a new research area in Denmark, involving the analysis of law using methods based on economic theory. Firm (and consumer) behavior is affected by the laws in force, and economic theory provides tools to analyse exactly how the behavior is affected.

The cross-disciplinary cooperation between economists and jurists has been especially fruitful in the areas of contract law, company law, law of torts, intellectual property law, financial regulation and competition law. This cooperation has led not only to new perspectives on what legal rules are most appropriate, but also to proposals for new ways for firms to act within existing legal frameworks.

The aim of the center is to create a forum for research and communication within law and economics and to maintain external contacts to the international research community, the Danish legal community and the business community.
