The focus of the SCM concentration is to transform single company activities of supply, production, distribution and marketing into one network-related business process. Such successful management of supply chains is for many companies the key driver to profitability.
NB: This is a new and English taught version of the SCM concentration, offered for the first time from September 2009.
The main characteristics of the supply chain management approach are customer orientation, relationship management, thinking in flows and processes and the borderless organisation. The main tasks of supply chain management are the design, organisation of supply, production and distribution networks for the provision of the customers with the required goods in due time at lowest costs. There are many strategic, tactical and operative decisions involved, which relate to three generic supply chain activities:
Overall, SCM includes the management of the flows of goods, related information and cooperation. These management tasks are the central elements of the concentration’s themes, which refer to supply chain design (= strategic decision level), supply chain planning (= tactical decision level) and supply chain operations (= operative level).
