Why MHM?
The conditions for leadership and management in the Danish health care sector are constantly changing. In recent years, politicians, citizens and the media have made heavy calls on the leaders of the health care sector in terms of their ability to make quick changes and their ability to show competent leadership in times of change. The MHM is designed to meet the health care sector professionals’ new and increasing demand for high level education focusing on the special conditions of the health care sector.

Main topics
The MHM is a specific programme for managers from different professional disciplines. The core subjects of the MHM programme are politics and policy, organisation and management tools, which are followed by a module focusing on leadership. In addition, participants choose two or three optional subjects, which give them the opportunity to study aspects of the core subjects in more depth.

Target group
The target group for MHM consists of health care sector managers, coming from all parts of the sector: The central and regional level as well as the local (municipal) level.

Programme beginning and application
The MHM programme begins odd-numbered years in February. Application deadlines are in June and October the year before.

Course language
The course is taught in Danish, but a high level of proficiency in English is require, as a compulsory part of the programme is a joint study tour abroad. Furthermore, a large part of course literature is in English.

Aim
The MHM programme aims at developing participants’ leadership skills, especially in view of the ongoing changes of the conditions in the health care sector. Various specialist angles are explored in order to identify and address the need for change and stability within an organisation and to implement these changes. By continually involving participants’ work experiences, emphasis can be placed on the reflective and critical development of individual leadership roles.

Structure
Classes typically consist of four-eight hours modules with one or two teachers. During the first year, focus is on the three core subjects, whereas the second year consists of the leadership module, optional subjects and the master's thesis.

International perspective
In the second year, a study visit abroad is an integral part of the course with the aim of furthering an appreciation of known problems and issues from an international perspective.
