FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions: Freemovers

What are the requirements for applying for admission as a freemover?
A freemover must be registered as a student at another university in order to be eligible for admission as a freemover student at CBS. Applications for admission as a freemover must contain a letter from the student’s home university confirming that he or she is currently enrolled as a student and that a period of study at CBS is recommended and, preferably, will be granted credit by the home university.

Are there tuition fees if I am accepted as a freemover?
Yes. The Danish government has passed new legislation that requires anyone coming from a non-EU/EEA country to pay tuition fees as follows:

  • Bachelor: EUR 9,500 per year or EUR 4,750 per semester
  • Master: EUR 12,500 per year or EUR 6,500 per semester.

Can I earn a degree at CBS as a freemover?
No degrees can be earned. If a freemover for some reason later wishes to take a full degree at CBS, then he or she must apply through the regular channels of admission (annual deadline for undergraduate admission: 15 March) with no guarantee that work done as a guest student can be applied towards a full degree.

Are there scholarships I can apply for as a freemover?
CBS has no funds from which scholarships to cover travel and living expenses can be offered to freemovers. This means that the letter of application from a freemover should indicate how expenses will be covered.

How much money will I need to live and study at CBS?
To cover expenses at a very modest standard of living, a minimum of DKK 5,000 per month will be necessary.

Can I work while I am in Denmark in order to pay my expenses?
Please note that a student visa does not give you the right to take a job. This means that you must be able to finance your stay exclusively with your own funds.

How long can I study at CBS as a freemover?
Freemover status can be given for a period of up to a maximum of one academic year.

Do I need any proof of English proficiency?
Yes. Students, who do not have English as their native language, must document that they will be able to work actively in English by scoring a minimum of 570 (230 on the computerised version) on the TOEFL-test.

What is the deadline for applying to CBS as a freemover?
Deadline for applications: 1 June for the autumn semester or 1 November for the spring semester.
