CBS students can access the Reading Room at the CBS Library Porcelænshaven Round-the-Clock (24/7)! Send your application - submitted from your own CBS mail account - to the CBS Library Administration ( udl.lib@cbs.dk). Applications must contain your name, study programme, and expiry date of your CBS student id.

AV material

At CBS Library Dalgas Have you will find AV collection of videocassettes related to CBS’ research and teaching. All videocassettes and the accompanying text material may be borrowed. Audiotapes may be borrowed for the independent study of a large number of languages.

AT CBS Library Solbjerg Plads you will find videocassettes in the general book collection.

Baby Care facilities

In Solbjerg Plads, baby care facilities are available in the washrooms in the A Wing, ground floor. In Dalgas Have there is room in the basement washrooms.

Beverages

You are welcome to bring beverages into the Library. Remember to take empty bottles with you when you leave your study space.

Book proposals

It is the intention of the Library to have all the books used in study programmes offered at the CBS. If you come across book titles the Library does not have, you can send a book proposal

Book recall/Overdue notices

The Library only sends out recall/overdue notices to CBS students by e-mail. CBS students must therefore check their official CBS e-mail account for recall/overdue notices.

Recall/overdue notices for other users are sent to private e-mail accounts.

The due date for return of materials is indicated on the borrower’s receipt and can also be checked on Self-Service -> Renewals .

Bookshop

There are student bookshops in both Solbjerg Plads and Dalgas Have. See also: www.samfundslitteratur.dk

Borrowing

Books may be borrowed for 4 weeks at a time, journals and reserved books for two weeks. Find the material you need by yourself on the shelves. Look it up if needed in the Library Catalogue

Campus

The term ‘campus’ covers all of CBS buildings. If a database is only accessible on campus, you cannot use it at home.

CBS students can find a great deal of information relevant to their studies at CBS on e-Campus and CBS-Web. If you have any problems finding the information you need, try the search function at the top of the homepage Search cbs.dk

CD-ROM

You can buy CD-ROMs at the circulation desk at CBS Library Solbjerg Plads and Dalgas Have for 10 DKK each.

CD-ROM databases

A few of the Library’s database products are only accessible on CD-ROM. These database products are only accessible on campus and are usually marked

Cellular / mobile phones

Are not allowed in the Library. Turn off your phone before you enter or put it on “vibrate”. You must leave the Library to answer a call. At the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads you may also talk in the area by the elevators.

Remember that even quiet telephone conversations disturb the other library guests.

Course literature

All lecturers at CBS can request that the library purchase the literature they use in their teaching. The books are place in a special Reserve Collection, where books may only be used in the library.

The printed course material collections, which are made for most subjects, are also placed in this collection.

Lecturers are gradually beginning to use only e-course material collections, which CBS students can find on SiteScape.

The library does not purchase ‘class sets’.

Current literature / Alerts – tracking literature

The Library offers a variety of services for tracking current literature for CBS staff and other users. Read more under Latest list

CBS Mønt (pre-paid card)

Payment for printing and photocopying requires a CBS Mønt card. Blank CBS Mønt cards may be purchased for DKK 10. - at CBS Library Solbjerg Plads and CBS Library Dalgas Have, where you will find terminals enabling you to transfer credits to your card account.

Databases

CBS students and staff can also access the systems from PC rooms and offices on campus – and from home through remote access to e-resources.

Dictionnaries

A large number of reference books and databases for looking up brief, factual answers are found in both libraries. The books are located in the Reference Collection. The databases are found under 'Search the Library' > List of E-resources

Disability information

The Library offers a disability-friendly workstation with an adjustable-height desk at CBS Library Solbjerg Plads. Wheelchair users can use all desks in the Language Library. Read more about accessibility etc.:

Diskettes

Diskettes are sold at CBS Library Solbjerg Plads and CBS Library Dalgas Have: 10 DKK each.

Dictionaries

The dictionaries in the Reference Collection may be used in both the CBS Library Dalgas Have and the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads. A small selection of dictionaries is also available in the reading room of the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads. The CBS Library Dalgas Have has a number of dictionaries in several copies available for borrowing in the Dictionary Collection.

The PCs in the Library are intended for academic purposes and e-mail may only be used when in relevance for your studies.

The Library provides access to an extensive range of databases, corporate information, statistics, journals (many articles are in the full-text version). Economics Library - now CBS Library Solbjerg Plads

The Library is located in Solbjerg Plads 3 together with most of the departments belonging to the CBS Faculty – right across from the cafeteria.

Examination papers

You can find previous examination papers in the Library’s collections. Use the keywords ‘paper collections’ when you search for them in the Library catalogue .

Fax

CBS students have access to fax machines at the student organisations DSF and MS in Solbjerg Plads 3, Block B, ground floor and at DSR in Dalgas Have 15.

Food

You are not permitted to eat in the Library. Take a break and go to the cafeteria. However, you are welcome to bring beverages into the Library.

Group rooms

At CBS Library Solbjerg Plads and CBS Library Dalgas Have you will find a small number of group rooms.

The group rooms may only be used by CBS students. CBS students will also find 34 group rooms at 'Kilen'.

Guidance and information

Contact the staff if you need help in searching in general or if you just have problems searching in a specific database.

Solbjerg Plads: Trained staff may be consulted on weekdays from 9 am - 6 pm, Fridays 9 am - 5 pm, Saturdays from 10 am - 4 pm. No trained staff available on Sundays.

Dalgas Have: Trained staff may be consulted Monday-Thursday on weekdays from 9 am - 6 pm.

Information searches

There is free access to information searches on all PCs in the library and the PC rooms. Contact the staff if you need help finding the right information and use the guidelines found on the homepages, under the menu item: Guides – try also the Link collections, which provides structured access to free resources on the Internet.

Instruction in the use of the Library

The Library staff instruct students in information searching. IT supporters give instruction in the use of the different computer programs etc. Some of the instruction is carried out through self-study on the Internet, while other parts of it are integrated with regular teaching and arranged by the class’s regular teacher.

Occasionally, teaching materials customised to specific study programmes are posted on the library hompage. CBS students can request the assistance of a librarian in connection with major assignments, see Request a librarian

Internet

There is Internet access from all computers in the Library and the PC rooms at CBS (CBS students only). You will find wireless network as well as the normal LAN network.

Journals

The Library subscribes to a large number of journals, magazines, yearbooks, etc. within CBS’ fields of study. Journals in print are available for borrowing from the Journal Collection. A growing number of journals are also, or exclusively, found in electronic full-text editions accessible from CBS’ computers. See the E-resources

Language Library - now: CBS Library Dalgas Have

The CBS Library Dalgas Have is located on the 2nd floor next to the CBS Faculty of Language, Communication and Culture.

Language courses

You can borrow material for self-study of a number of languages at the CBS Library Dalgas Have. Everyone can borrow, for example, material for the TOEFL test.

Laptops

CBS students: Bring your own laptop and connect it to the CBS network by the study spaces in the Library, in the cafeteria in Solbjerg Plads and in the niches in Dalgas Have - or use the wireless network. See instructions on e-Campus > Mail & IT > Internet access.

Other borrowers: You can plug your laptop into the electrical outlet. Due to security and license restrictions it is only students fra universities affiliated to the EDUROAM-organization who can go onto the Internet from laptops: Network access - eduroam at CBS

Access the Internet on the stationary PCs, from which you can also download onto a diskette, smartcard, USB stick or CD-ROM.

Learning Resource Center (LRC)

CBS students: In the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads on the main floor and on the first floor are two large PC rooms (LRC) with Internet access, databases, word and number processing on more than 130 PCs.

The opening hours of the LRC are the same as those of the Library, and IT staff are on duty all through opening hours. You must use the special system password to gain access. Printing is paid for by CBS Mønt (pre-paid card).

The Library

The CBS Library was founded in 1922 and has thus existed nearly as long as the school itself. In 1999, the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads moved into the building on Solbjerg Plads (designed by Vilhelm Lauritsen). A library has been located in the Dalgas Have building (designed by Henning Larsen) since 1988 and, at Porcelænshaven since 2006.

The Library is an independent principal division of CBS with its own budget, which is administered in accordance with guidelines laid down by the CBS Executive Board.

Library card

CBS students: Your student card is your library card. If you wish, you can request a separate library card. Application for library card .

CBS staff: Staff have special lending privileges, see Library card & loans

Other Library users: All persons over the age of 18 who are permanent residents of Denmark can obtain a library card: Library card & loan

Students and staff at the Øresund University can also obtain a library card. Bring ID.

Library catalogue

In the Library catalogue you can search for Library material, reserve books, check the status of already borrowed materials and renew them if necessary.

Loan period

Books: 1 months (with reservations 14 days)
Journals and AV material: 14 days.
Dictionnaries: 7 days.

Please see your receipt for the specific due date.

Lockers

There are approx. 112 small lockers for bags, backpacks etc. in CBS Library Solbjerg Plads. The lockers on the ground floor may be borrowed for one day (all users). The lockers on 2nd floor can be borrowed for one month at a time (CBS students only). Read more about Lockers

Login

The login for Library PCs is indicated on the keyboard. Do not use your personal login.

Some databases have special passwords – ask the staff.

CBS students and staff must use their e-mail logon for ‘Remote access’.

Lost and found

Daily, the CBS Library hands over lost things to the CBS Information, where you can collect them.

Material from other libraries

CBS students and staff can request to obtain material that the Library does not have (electronic or in print) from other libraries. Read more about interlibrary loans: Loans from other libraries

Other borrowers can use bibliotek.dk , the library at their own institution of education or the public libraries.

Material return

You can return materials in both libraries no matter if you took out the matierials from CBS Library Solbjerg Plads or the CBS Library Dalgas Have.

Newspapers

Several Danish newspapers are available in the sofa area/newspaper reading area at the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads.

A wide variety of newspapers in the languages taught at CBS are also available in the sofa area/newspaper reading area at the CBS Library Dalgas Have.

Online catalogue

In the Library Catalogue you can search for Library material, reserve books, check the status of already borrowed materials and renew them if necessary.

Opening hours

For most of the autumn and spring terms the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads is open every day, including weekends (80 hours altogether). The CBS Library Dalgas Have is open Monday-Friday. CBS Library Porcelænshaven is open Monday-Friday 7.30 am - 22.30 pm. During holidays and in exam periods the number of opening hours is reduced. See Opening hours

The opening hours of the Learning Resource Center are the same as those of the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads.

Passwords

CBS students: You received the password to the PCs in the PC rooms and the mail system together with your study guide from CBS. If you have lost this information, contact the IT support staff, see e-Campus > ‘Mail & IT’ > ‘Passwords’.

Logon and passwords for remote access to the Library’s databases are identical with those for your e-mail account.

A few of the Library’s bases also request a password – contact the staff at the information desk. NB! The password is not the same as your personal password.

PC Rooms

PhD students

PhD students at CBS have the same borrowing privileges as CBS staff: Library card & loans

Photocopying

Photocopiers are found on all floors of the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads and the CBS Library Dalgas Have. At Porcelænshaven copiers are found in the central part of the building. See prices Prices & fees

Payment must be made by CBS Mønt (pre-paid card) (0.60 DKK a copy). CBS students may find Graphic Centre (B wing, ground Floor) in Solbjerg Plads 3, the best place to do large copy jobs.

PIN Code

When you get your library card (possibly an updated version of your CBS student card) you will be asked to choose a PIN code. Use the PIN code when you reserve books or check your loan status on the Internet.

You can change your current PIN code . Note that this code must contain four digits.

If you forget your PIN code, you can get a new one at the desk in all three libraries.

Pre-paid card (CBS Mønt)

Payment for printing and photocopying requires a CBS Mønt card. Blank CBS Mønt cards may be purchased for DKK 10. - at CBS Library Solbjerg Plads and Dalgas Have, where you will find terminals enabling you to transfer credits to your card account.

CBS Mønt cards are accepted in the canteens and at the “Grafisk Center”.

Print-outs

All PCs are connected to one or more laser printers in the Library or at the LRC. It costs 0.60 DKK to print 1 page. You must pay by CBS Mønt (pre-paid card) in both libraries and PC rooms.

In general, the use of the Library is free of charge, but copies, printouts, diskettes, CD-ROMs and loans from foreign libraries etc. are services requiring fees. See Prices & fees

Remote access

CBS students and staff can use e-resources at home or from any Internet connection. Click Remote Access in the top menu. Use your e-mail login for ‘Remote Access’.

Reading room and study places

The reading room on the 2nd floor at CBS Library Solbjerg Plads is a quiet, peaceful place to concentrate free from distracting talk, ringing phones or noisy copy machines. For CBS users only.

Study places on 2nd floor are for CBS users only. Place your student ID in holder.

Laptops may be connected to the computer outlets in the front section of the reading room, but there is no Internet access.

CBS Library Dalgas Have has 10 quiet study spaces in 2 group rooms with 5 desks in each.

CBS students can access the Reading Room at the CBS Library Porcelænshaven Round-the-Clock (24/7)! Reference Books

A large number of reference books and databases for looking up brief, factual answers are found in both libraries. The books are located in the Reference Collection. The databases are found under 'Search the Library' -> List of E-resources

Reference Collections

Reference collections are available in both libraries, comprising primarily different types of reference books and statistics. You may not borrow these books for home use from the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads.

It is possible to borrow the reference books at the CBS Library Dalgas Have for home use from closing time until the next morning, on weekends and during holidays (except examination period).

Reference tool

RefWorks is a web-based bibliography and database manager that allows you to create your own personal database by importing references from text files or online databases. RefWorks is reserved for CBS staff and CBS students at a high level.

Renewals

Renew your books on the Internet. See Renewals or use the self-service machines in the Library.

CBS students: Inter-library-loans can not be renewed via the internet. Please contact the staff at the circulation desk.

CBS staff: Please send your materials to the Library with a note indicating that you wish to renew your loan.

Replacements

Request a librarian

CBS students can request the assistance of a librarian in connection with major assignments, see Request a librarian.

CBS staff may contact the Faculty Service of the CBS Library with specific questions or to arrange a specialised introduction to the Library resources, see Faculty librarians.

Research

Many of CBS’ teachers are under obligation to research and publish their results. Find the latest CBS research in the database Research@CBS .

Reserve Collection

All lecturers at CBS can request that the library purchase the literature they use in their teaching.

The books are placed in a special Term Course Material Collection, where books may only be used in the library. The printed course material collections, which are made for most subjects, are also placed in this collection.

Lecturers are gradually beginning to use only e-course course material collections, which CBS students can find on SiteScape.

Reserved library materials

Items awaiting collection are shelved at either library location. Your materials are shelved due to your reservation number.

Scanner

CBS students: A scanner is available in the Learning Resource Center (1st Floor), Solbjerg Plads 3. In Dalgas Have you will find a scanner in 1Ø.060.

Self-Service

The Library encourages users to “help themselves” as far as possible in many areas. For example, you must find the material you want to borrow by yourself. You can use the self-service machine to borrow, return and renew material. You must also reserve material already on loan by yourself.

Sitemap

Click on the sitemap icon on the top bar and choose ‘Library’: Sitemap.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted in the Library and is in general not permitted at CBS. There are a few areas reserved for smokers in the cafeteria; check the signs.

Software

CBS students can borrow the software programs SAS and SPS in the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads. Ask IT supporters at 1st floor.

CBS students can have a CD-ROM burned with, for example, shareware programs by contacting an IT supporter. Read more on e-Campus > ‘Mail & IT’.

Spreadsheets

CBS Library Solbjerg Plads: In the Learning Resource Center, other PC rooms and on selected PCs in the Library the spreadsheet program Excel and other MS-Office products are available.

CBS Library Dalgas Have: The spreadsheet program Excel and other MS-Office products are available on all PCs in the room’s outer ‘curve’.

Stacks

Library users do not have access to the stacks. If you need material from the stacks, please ask the staff for assistance. At the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads we usually try to fetch the material right away.

In the CBS Library Dalgas Have and Porcelænshaven you will generally not be able to access the stack material until the following day, as the stacks are not located in close proximity to the Library.

Students ID card

All new student cards may be picked up at CBS Library at Solbjerg Plads. If you have lost your card please contact the IT-supporters in the LRC. Further information at e-campus > Study > Student ID card.

Subject classification system

The library classifies all material according to keywords; Universal Decimal Classification system (UDK) aimed at the Library’s subject field. See an overview of the subject system (temporarily not available!).

Subject search

The Library staff are available to assist you in finding information on subjects within the Library’s subject field – minor subject inquiries can also be solved through the (Monday-Friday, 10 am -1 pm) or via Ask the library.

Tape recorders

CBS students can borrow interview tape recorders at the circulation desk in both libraries – if all are on loan they can be reserved in the Library Catalogue .

CBS students can also borrow special tape recorders at the Educational and Student Support in Dalgas Have. Read more on e-Campus > ‘Mail & IT’.

Technical literature

CBS is an institution of higher education with university status, and the Library must support research and teaching at this level. By far the majority of literature in the library consists of technical and academic literature in English, but also to some degree in Danish and many other languages.

The Library also has novels and films to the extent these may be relevant to teaching or research at CBS.

Telephone service

The Library 's telephone service is open on weekdays from 9 am - 3 pm on 3815 3815 (Monday-Friday). This service allows you to have things looked up in the Library Catalogue, to make simple subject searches and to check the status of your reservations.

If you are a regular visitor to Porcelænshaven CBS Library now provides international news: Take a break, grab a head set and select a channel.

Theses

A great deal of the theses from the CBS Undergradaute and Graduate School are deposited in the Library and may be borrowed here. Find non-confidential theses by searching in the Library Catalogue .

In the CBS Library Solbjerg Plads theses are sorted by subject and are located together with the other library material. In the CBS Library Dalgas Have, theses are placed in a separate collection.

If you are beginning your master thesis CBS offers working stations.

TOEFL test

In the CBS Library Dalgas Have you will find different test books, tapes and CD-ROMs that may be used in preparation for the TOEFL test, which is a part of CBS’ language testing prior to study visits abroad.

The Library does not sell used books; occasionally discarded books are put out and may be picked up for free.

At CBS Library Solbjerg Plads and at CBS Library Dalgas Have you will find AV materials videocassettes related to CBS’ research and teaching in both libraries. Most videocassettes and the accompanying text material may be borrowed.

Word processing

CBS students: The word processing program Word is available on the PCs in the Learning Resource Center and in the PC rooms.

Word and Excel are available on 2 PCs at CBS Library Solbjerg Plads. Ask the staff.

Dalgas Have: Word and other MS Office products are available on all PCs in the room’s outer ‘curve’.
